Compliance is going to be one messed up film and I’m absolutely going to see it.

Okay, this shit is fucked up, not so much in the ‘torture porn that is going to make you physically sick when you watch it fucked up,’ but rather, so unsettling that it makes your skin crawl, particularly because it’s based on a true story. Watch the trailer for the film first, and then we’ll chat about the true story. Oh, it premiered at Sundance this year. I should probably mention that.

Before we get to the real story behind this film, let me just say that Dreama Walker (who plays main girl Becky) looks like she’s going to be amazing in this. She’s the impossibly wide-eyed girl in Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23, which is one of my favourite new shows because I love Krysten Ritter a whole lot. Oh, and James Van Der Beek plays himself in it and it’s fucking hysterical. But enough about that (you should watch it though), let’s talk about the trailer.

Fucked, right? But I bet you’re thinking ‘what kind of person in their right mind would go along with that?!’ The answer is ‘a shit load of people.’ Incidents like this occurred over 70 times and in 30 different U.S states prior to the Mount Washington, Kentucky incident which the film is based on. You can read about the real events of that night here, but be warned, it’s both horrifying and will probably spoil the film for you. Below the clip from 20/20 back in 2004 when this shit happened to Louise Ogborn. Again, it’s both horrifying and will probably spoil the film for you.

If what you’re thinking is ‘this sounds familiar and I think I’ve seen this before,’ then it’s probably because you’ve seen the Law & Order: SVU episode which ripped this from the headlines and had Robin Williams guest star.

So, what do you think? Are you going to see it?
