The Teen Choice Awards finally happened.
So after two posts about the nominations, I figured I should probably recap the Teen Choice Awards, so here we go! Let’s start with the pink carpet photos. I’ve formatted it a little differently than I have in the past, so click on the thumbnail to enlarge the photo, yeah?
Overall, there’s nothing too thrilling or spectacular fashion wise to comment on here, but basically I think everyone looked cute, young, fresh, and all of those other adjectives that people use when they’re describing young people in bright, skimpy outfits. Instead of doing a poll with 40 odd different choices, I figured I’d just ask you, who do you think was best dressed at the Teen Choice Awards? I thought Selena and Taylor Swift looked really cute, and although I didn’t have a photo of it, Troian from Pretty Little Liars looked amazing.
While we’re on the subject of Pretty Little Liars, here’s some red carpet interviews with the cast that I came across if you’re into that:
And here’s one with Nolan Gould from Modern Family, just for good measure:
Let’s move on to the performances. No Doubt performed their comeback single Settle Down:
I don’t know how I feel about this song. On the one hand, I think it sounds very much like No Doubt, and I like No Doubt, so I feel like I should like this song. On the other hand… I kind of think it’s boring. I don’t know… maybe it’ll grow on me. Or maybe they’ll release a new single and I’ll like that one more. Either way, the performance was solid, Gwen looked like she was having a blast, and it’s cool to see her in standard No Doubt attire after so long.
Flo Rida performed Whistle/Wild Ones:
I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been singing along to Wild Ones when I’ve heard it on the radio for months, and I found out just then that it’s by Flo Rida. I had no idea. I also don’t know who that girl is, but it’s whatever.
Flo Rida’s kind of ridiculous, isn’t he? Like, in a fun way. That mic is so over the top and I kind of love it. Also, I was just talking yesterday about printed leggings and about how I wasn’t sure if I liked them, but I think his back up dancers look fierce, so I guess that settles that, right?
I also had a conversation about sneaker heels yesterday afternoon, though. I hate them. The only reason sneakers should ever be heels is when (note the use of the word ‘when’, as opposed to ‘if’. I’ve assumed you do.) you’re dressing up like a Spice Girl:
But that’s not even what these new ones are. They’re heels, but sneakers. It’s no good. Like that time J-Lo tried to bring in those disgusting workman boot heels… fuck. These things:
What even is this?! Oh my God.
Apart from that, the performance is fun enough to watch. Nothing mindblowing, but fun.
Carly Rae Jepsen performed Call Me Maybe:
What can you say? I mean, the song is bubblegum pop perfection, it really is unapologetically catchy, and I’m totally into it, and she’s super cute, but I’ve already watched her perform this at the last awards show I recapped, and since she doesn’t do choreography, it’s not like there’s much to comment on. The most interesting thing about the performance is all the celebs singing it on the red carpet in the background, and the cutest moment of the whole video is when Rico Rodriguez from Modern Family catches himself on camera singing along.
and finally, Justin Bieber stole the show with his Boyfriend/As Long as You Love Me medley:
So, I’m just so happy JB was there because otherwise there would’ve been no pop stars who do choreography at the Teen Choice Awards and that’s some goddamn unacceptable fuckery.
Seriously. Hear the audience go batshit for the chorus of As Long as You Love me, it’s because there’s like 500 dancers and Justin’s keeping up with them. He slayed it.
Ugh, I’m just such a fan of spectacle-pop performances, and this one has it all. Sick choreography, ridiculous costumes, lights, smoke, a decent set, it’s all great. Could’ve done with some fire, or like, some ridiculous explosions, or something, but it’s cool. The VMA’s are coming up soon enough.
And finally, the winners were…
