So is anyone interested in ‘The Carrie Diaries’?

If you do, this is the first photo of baby Bradshaw in the 80’s in Manhattan. If you don’t have any idea what I’m on about right now, The Carrie Diaries is the prequel book (book series? I dunno.) to Sex and the City, both written by Candace Bushnell. Of course, any opportunity to cash in on the Sex and the City franchise will be done, regardless of how awful it is (Sex and the City 2, I’m looking at you.), so obviously there’s a new TV series being based on The Carrie Diaries.

Now, I can only assume that the plot will revolve around the mystery that is ‘how does AnnaSophia’s face end up looking like Sarah Jessica Parker’s?’ I hope that’s the finale of the series. Just a mugshot of Sarah Jessica Parker and a PSA about not partying too hard when you’re young. Seriously though, AnnaSophia is pretty, kind of like a less snarly Taylor Momsen:

Also, I feel like she’s not reaaaaaally dressed like she’s in the 80’s, but rather, how teenagers today dress when they want to look like they’re dressing as though they’re in the 80’s. That being said, it’s a CW show (formerly The WB, and the same network that has Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, The OC, Dawson’s Creek, One Tree Hill, Buffy’s first 5 seasons, Angel, 90210, Popular, Grosse Pointe, my new favourite/about to be cancelled Ringer, and basically every other teen show that’s changed your life in the last 15 years) and to say that the whole network is flailing would be a massive understatement because Vampire Diaries is the only one that’s getting half decent ratings at the moment (I tip my hat off to Kevin Williamson for adding vampires to Dawson’s Creek and cashing in all over again for a new generation of teenagers. Legitimate genius.) My guess is that they’re not so much focused on accuracy, but rather, doing whatever they can to get themselves a new hit TV series to stop the embarrassment of potentially cancelling four or five shows at the end of this season.

If you’re wondering where you’ve seen her before, she was in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and more recently, Soul Surfer, that movie about that girl who got her arm bit off my a shark and didn’t learn her lesson overcame her fears and continued surfing.

Anyway, are you gonna check it out? I probably will because I haven’t matured at all since I was about 14 and therefore am still interested in tween shows.

I started reading your blog because you’re my friend, now I’m just genuinely addicted to it. lol I have so much I wanna say:

    1. Vampire Diaries really IS Dawson’s Creek with vampires. Like…literally. We all know how that shit is gonna end.

    2. The Secret Circle (also written by Kevin Williamson) is getting decent-ish ratings. If you aren’t watching it, you must. It’s basically Dawson’s Creek with witchcraft. It even has its own Abby. You’ll love it.

    3. Ringer is awful. I LOVE Sarah Michelle Gellar and that show is about as boring as … I don’t really know where I was going with that, but it’s bad. I wanted to love it and just couldn’t.

    4. The WB >>>>>> The CW.

    5. I will give The Carrie Diaries a chance if it gets amazing reviews and nothing else is on (aka probably not). Sex and the City 2 was about as much torture as I can take, and I say that as someone who loved the first movie.

    6. LMFAO @ the finale being a PSA. My friends and I have already joked about how she goes from her to SJP. Carrie had a rough life. lol AND I say THAT as someone who doesn’t find SJP nearly as unattractive as everyone else does. Sometimes I think she’s even pretty. And in this shitty new show’s defense, SJP can look crazy different depending on her hair. Season one Carrie is fug. Season 2-4 Carrie is average. Season 6 Carrie, IMO, is pretty sexy. So I can suspend my belief enough to believe that this new girl can turn into SJP. They just need to ugly her up a bit on occasion.

    7. Totally agree, no one dressed like that in the 80s. And the sad part is that the costume designers were most likely alive in the 80s. So sad. Haha.

    • Haha thanks! I haven’t seen TVD and to be honest it doesn’t really appeal to me, but I did see the trailer for The Secret Circle awhile ago and it looked okay, so I’ll probably check it out eventually. I’ve been obsessing over PLL recently. Teen shows FTW.

I love the shit out of Ringer. I’ve accepted that it’s an awful soap, and that it’s definitely about to be cancelled, but I love it.

The WB definitely rules over The CW.

I hated both SatC films, but the second one was fucking horrendous. Also racist, lol. That being said, of course I’m going to be watching The Carrie Diaries.

      • Everyone says that Sex and the City 2 was racist, but Sex and the City was actually far more racist and I seem to be the only one that notices! SATC2 stereotyped like a mofo, but the was a scene in SATC where (after Steve cheated on her and she was looking for an address) Miranda and Brady got lost with Magda in Chinatown and Miranda said “look! White guy with a baby…wherever he’s going, that’s where we need to be.” Here’s the clip:

Also, there was a scene when Charlotte was discussing Halloween costumes with Carrie and Lily and Charlotte insisted on Lily being Mulan. Racist hags.

        I love ’em!
